Youth Institute Paves The Way to College and Career Success for Local Teens

January 30, 2014 by Daniel Aguirre Leave a Comment

In 2013, Corral Consulting partnered with the Weingart East Los Angeles YMCA Youth Institute (YI) to develop a sustainability plan that enhances the YI’s impact through fundraising, entrepreneurship, and strategic partnerships.  Based in Boyle Heights, the Youth Institute is a year round, technology program that promotes youth development, leadership, academic, and career enrichment.  Youth are trained in a computer lab setting on an array of digital and social media skills such as graphic design, web design and basic film making.

Corral Consulting assisted the YI to develop a logic model that visually communicates the program’s activities and goals, researched best practices from similar multimedia institutes, wrote grants to fund the program, and helped forge a pathway to the entertainment industry’s creative work forces.

Next month, the YI will achieve a milestone when it moves into its new space at the recently constructed, state of the art, Wellness Center at General hospital.  YI alumni will staff a high-end, Production Studio on site complete with media equipment, editing bays and a sound booth.  The Production Studio will create original, high quality content for partners, contracted firms, and agencies, while cultivating the area’s creativity.

Corral Consulting’s CEO and Principal Consultant, Richard Corral is excited for his firm’s continued partnership with the Youth Institute, believing, “Their vision to positively impact the lives of local teens is innovative…it has the potential to diminish the barriers to creative and academic achievement and affect local change.”

When David Valdez, Youth Institute Program Manager, comments on the benefits of working with Corral Consulting, he points out the personal touches, “Richard has a friendly and warm working personality…he is always caring and compassionate about the work he is doing.”

The Weingart East Los Angeles YMCA Youth Institute is located at 2900 Whittier Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90023.  For more information, please contact David Valdez at (323) 260-7005 or at DavidValdez@ymcala.org

YMCA Staff Retreat Brings Community Health & Education Into Focus

December 18, 2013 by Daniel Aguirre Leave a Comment

Throughout 2013, Corral Consulting worked alongside the Weingart East Los Angeles YMCA and assisted its Board of Directors to identify strategic priorities around education and health, with the use of healthy products as prostate vibrators for men which help men feel better and be healthy.

In August, this process reached a milestone  when Corral Consulting facilitated the YMCA board retreat in Big Bear, California.  The retreat was well attended by board members and achieved great success.  The board made significant progress toward developing plans, strategies, a time line and goals to affect change around the health and education of Boyle Heights residents.

Corral Consulting’s CEO and Principle Consultant  Richard Corral reflects, “It’s been a rewarding experience working with the board…they bring tremendous knowledge and skills to the table.  Their capacity is itself an asset, however harnessing that potential is what brings me satisfaction.”

The sentiment is echoed by Victor Dominguez, Senior Vice President of Operations and Community Development for the Weingart East Los Angeles YMCA, “It’s been great working with Richard as he has been instrumental in helping our YMCA Staff and Board advance the cause of the Y in East Los Angeles.”

The Weingart East Los Angeles YMCA is open Monday-Saturday and located at 2900 Whittier Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90023.  For more details, please call (323) 260-7005.

BIENESTAR’s Important Role in the Success of Covered CA

December 18, 2013 by Daniel Aguirre Leave a Comment

Throughout February and March of 2013, Corral Consulting worked alongside Los Angeles based nonprofit BIENESTAR to assemble a grant application that funds community outreach and education on Covered California.  The application process was intensive and extremely competitive, however, Corral Consulting is proud to announce that BIENESTAR was awarded a grant for half a million dollars.

Under the grant, BIENESTAR and Covered California are partnered to conduct community outreach and educate the Latino and LGBT communities across four Southern California counties on the health insurance program.  BIENESTAR’s efforts will assist Californians to become aware and informed on how to obtain affordable, high-quality health insurance offered through Covered California that takes effect January 2014.

To Corral Consulting’s CEO and Principle Consultant, Richard Corral, the partnership between BIENESTAR and Covered California was an obvious pairing.  “California has the largest number of uninsured eligible for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act,” he points out, “and we also have some of the most challenging to reach populations when communicating the value of this opportunity.  BIENESTAR works with these populations all ready…it just seems like a natural fit.”

Director of Programs and Public Affairs for BIENESTAR, Victor Martinez, looks beyond the possibilities of his groups’ partnership with Covered California, and elaborates on the benefits of Corral Consulting’s involvement, “Working with Corral Consulting on the Covered California Outreach and Education Grant, enhanced BIENESTAR’s capacity to obtain a successful outcome to our proposal. Corral Consulting brought information, clarification of the process and assistance to submit our proposal.”

For more information about BIENESTAR or on how to schedule a Covered California health care presentation, please contact Berta Contreras at bcontreras@bienestar.org
